Cavitation Resistance of WC-10Co4Cr and WC-20CrC-7Ni HVAF Coatings

Machines operating in aqueous environments may be subjected to cavitation damage during operation. This study aims evaluate the resistance of WC-10Co4Cr and WC-20CrC-7Ni coatings under erosion conditions with additional electrochemical effects. The were deposited on AISI 1040 steel substrates using a high velocity air fuel thermal spray process. microstructure was observed by scanning electron microscope, while their phase composition analyzed an energy-dispersive microanalysis system. In addition, microhardness substrate measured, surface topography eroded layers 3D optical profilometer. results revealed that better than coatings. observation structure made it possible identity reasons for differences between both coatings: had finer grain structure, lower pore density, as-sprayed roughness. These differences, along presence Cr Ni content feedstock powder, increased coating corrosion resistance, contributed improving reducing material loss
